Better-quality Access for Young People (BAY) is AYI Uganda’s national youth advocacy project. Since March 2014 it has run with and through 15 partner organisations in more than 12 districts, working with young people aged 12 to 25 at local and national level.

The goal is meaningful investment in youth- and adolescent-focused sexual and reproductive health programmes. To show Parliament that young people want that investment, the project collected their voices on online platforms, through essay competitions and in street interviews.

The petition

More than 100,200 young people signed. The signatures went to the Parliament of Uganda through the Speaker, asking for adequate investment in youth sexual and reproductive health education and services. It remains one of the biggest highlights of the project.

Skills for policy change

Alongside the petition, AYI Uganda staff were trained in project planning and management and in health budget advocacy, the skills that policy change depends on.

Online and offline

BAY opened channels on Facebook, X and YouTube. Together with offline spaces, they share information on sexual and reproductive health services and rights, opportunities, news and events with young people in Uganda and beyond.
